Federal Universities have been shut down for close to four months now with many believing that it’s solely because of the virus ravaging the country currently. But in actual sense, if we are to conduct a careful investigation concerning what is still holding back school resumption, it will be discovered that it’s much more than what we think.

This is my own honest opinion concerning when students should expect to resume. It’s not going to be anytime.

Below are the Reasons Why Federal Universities Won’t Resume Till January, 2020;

1. ASUU Strike:

First of all, it appears everyone have forgotten so soon that the initial reason why Federal Universities were shut down was because of the ASUU strike. As we can recall, ASUU declared a warning strike on March 9, 2020 which sent many students home at that time. This was long before the government announced the nationwide school closure.

Now, let’s look at this from a critical view point, assuming the government announces that all academic activities should commence, students still have some issues to settle as regards school resumption as ASUU still has an unfinished business with FG.

Considering the fact that the year is already long lost to the pandemic, what now happens when everything is lifted eventually by the government and now we have the ASUU strike issue to face. The resumption of Federal Universities won’t just be possible.

2. Federal Government Won’t Lift the Ban on School resumption anytime Soon;

This is not rocket science, it’s crystal clear that of recent the cases of the virus in the country has skyrocketed and it would only be suicidal if schools are opened. This will not only lead to a skyrocketing of the virus in the country but also make it practical impossible for the country to manage. Have you ever considered the large number of students schooling at federal universities and considered what would happen if they are all asked to resume and eventually the virus spreads.

Everyone will virtually have the virus and in turn cause severe problems for the country. Therefore, it’s going to be impossible for the government to lift the ban on schools.

3. School Calendar has been severly Altered:

All Undergraduates will agree with me when I say that the calendar of most schools have been severely Altered and affected. Under normal circumstances, we should be halfway into the second semester but with what is happening, the calendar can’t just work out again.

Secondly, considering the rising cases of the pandemic in the country and no resumption date in sight, one can rightly assert that the calendar has been further hampered making it literally impossible for Universities to work. Even if Federal institutions are asked to resume, with the further delay as a result of the ASUU strike in view, nothing can happen. The year is officially wasted.

Now the aforementioned points are the reasons from my own point of view why schools won’t resume till next year which is 2020. Undergraduates should just prepare for an extra year.
